A little planning

I’m really getting in the mood to weave so I am going to warp my Rigid Heddle loom today. I’m planning a small bag out of 3/2 pearl cotton. I’ve figured my warp and weft calculations, now I’m deciding whether I want to do any patterning. I am also thinking of submitting this to Handwoven magazine when they have an issue it will work with. Jane Patrick of Schacht Spindle suggested I contribute my Rigid Heddle designs to Handwoven so I think I may take the leap. Of course if I decide to submit this, I won’t be able to share it with you until later.

I want to show you how the Jacob fleece is coming along. TNNA temporarily halted my progress but I’ve got a little done. I want to have a mixture of light and dark and then light and dark separately. I’m thinking this would make a nice cardigan with some fair isle or intarsia patterning. This batt turned out so nice. I think I just put it through the picker once and then I ran it through my drum carder four times. I wish you could feel it. I love the way it turned out.

Here is the before and after:

This is my picker. Dangerous thing it is. It is suggested that when in use your hair should be tied back, you wear no loose clothing, you wear a leather apron and leather elbow length gloves and keep the kids and animals away. Lots of precautions aren’t there? I think I may go one step further and update my tetanus shot just to be really safe!

VERY good idea to have your tetanus shot up to date!

I feel very lucky to have seen that batt in person – it really is lovely. You’re going to have a good time spinning it up – and again in knitting it!

    catch you later,
    Nan
